A clinically delivered treatment to resurface and renew your skin

Chemical Peels in Wooburn Green, near Flackwell Heath, Beaconsfield & High Wycombe

Improve skin clarity, tone and texture with a professional chemical peel

At Ashtree House Dental, we offer professional chemical peels as part of our facial aesthetics services. Chemical peels are clinically applied treatments that use carefully selected acids to exfoliate the outer layers of the skin, stimulating cell turnover and revealing a clearer, smoother, more even complexion beneath.

We welcome patients from Wooburn Green, Beaconsfield, High Wycombe, Flackwell Heath and surrounding areas.

A thorough skin consultation is always carried out before any peel treatment, and all procedures are performed by a trained practitioner. Chemical peels are only available to adults aged 18 and over.

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a treatment in which a solution containing one or more exfoliating acids is applied to the skin for a defined period of time. The acids work by loosening the bonds between dead skin cells, promoting controlled exfoliation and stimulating the skin’s natural renewal process.

Depending on the type and concentration of acid used, peels are classified as superficial, medium or deep. At Ashtree House Dental, we offer superficial and medium-depth peels — these are the most commonly used peel types in a clinic setting and are appropriate for most skin types and concerns. Deep peels carry significantly more risk and are generally performed in specialist medical settings; we do not offer these.

Following a chemical peel, the skin’s surface is renewed, and over time this can lead to improvements in skin tone, texture, clarity and the appearance of certain pigmentation or surface concerns.

What concerns can chemical peels help with?

Professional chemical peels can help address:

  • Uneven skin tone and dullness
  • Surface pigmentation and sunspots
  • Mild acne and post-acne marks (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation)
  • Fine lines and early signs of skin ageing
  • Dry or rough skin texture
  • Congested or enlarged-looking pores
  • Mild surface scarring

Results vary depending on the depth of peel used, the concern being treated, your skin type, and how many sessions you undergo. Your practitioner will give you a realistic assessment during your consultation.

What types of chemical peels do we offer?

The peels we use are formulated using well-established clinical acids. The most common include:

Alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) peels — including glycolic acid and lactic acid. These are among the most widely used superficial peels. They are well tolerated by most skin types and effective for improving skin texture, hydration and mild pigmentation.

Salicylic acid peels — a beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) that is oil-soluble, making it particularly well suited to oily, acne-prone or congested skin. Salicylic acid penetrates the pore lining and helps clear congestion.

TCA (trichloroacetic acid) peels — used at controlled concentrations for medium-depth peeling. TCA peels can address more significant pigmentation, fine lines and skin texture concerns. They require a longer recovery period than superficial peels.

Combination peels — some formulations combine multiple acids for a broader range of benefits. Your practitioner will select the most appropriate peel type and concentration for your skin following a thorough assessment.

Brand names of specific peel systems are not promoted; your practitioner will advise on the most appropriate option for your skin.

Your treatment journey at Ashtree House Dental

Consultation and skin assessment

Before any peel is applied, a face-to-face consultation is carried out to assess your skin type, discuss your concerns and goals, review your medical history and current skincare routine, and determine which peel type and depth is most appropriate.

A preparatory skincare regimen — typically including SPF and sometimes a retinoid or brightening serum — may be recommended in the weeks before treatment to prime the skin and reduce the risk of post-treatment pigmentation. We will advise on this during your consultation.

The treatment

The peel solution is carefully applied to the skin by your practitioner. Depending on the peel type and depth, you may notice tingling, warmth or mild stinging during application — this is expected and monitored throughout. The solution is left on the skin for a set period before being neutralised or removed.

Most peel appointments take between 30 and 60 minutes.

Aftercare and recovery

Superficial peels: Most patients experience mild redness immediately after treatment, similar to light sunburn, which typically settles within 24 to 48 hours. Peeling or flaking may occur over the following days.

Medium-depth peels: Redness and peeling are more pronounced and recovery takes longer — typically five to seven days. It is important not to pick or peel skin during recovery, as this can cause pigmentation or scarring.

Full written aftercare guidance is provided after every peel. Sun protection is essential throughout the recovery period and beyond.

Course of treatment

A single peel can produce a visible improvement, but a course of treatments — typically three to six sessions spaced two to four weeks apart — often produces more consistent and meaningful results. Your practitioner will advise the most appropriate approach.

What to expect after treatment

  • Mild redness and tightness are common and usually settle within a day or two for superficial peels
  • Skin flaking or shedding typically begins two to four days after treatment — this is normal and should not be forced
  • Sun protection is essential — the skin is more sensitive to UV exposure following a peel
  • Visible improvement in skin tone and texture is usually noticed once recovery is complete
  • Optimal results from a course of peels are typically seen over several weeks

Safety and risks

Chemical peels, when carried out correctly by a trained practitioner, are considered safe for most skin types. However, as with any skin treatment, there are risks. These will be discussed in full at your consultation.

Possible side effects and risks include: – Temporary redness, flaking and skin sensitivity during recovery – Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) — this risk is higher in darker skin tones and can be mitigated by appropriate preparation and aftercare – Infection — rare, but possible if aftercare instructions are not followed – Temporary reactivation of cold sores in susceptible individuals

Serious complications are uncommon with superficial and medium-depth peels when appropriate patient selection and aftercare protocols are followed.

If you experience unusual pain, blistering, signs of infection, or significant skin colour changes following treatment, please contact our team promptly and seek medical attention if needed.

Frequently asked questions

1. Does a chemical peel hurt?

Superficial peels are generally well tolerated. Most patients notice a mild tingling or warmth. Medium-depth peels produce a more noticeable stinging sensation during application, which settles once the peel is removed or neutralised.

2. How often can I have a chemical peel?

This depends on the depth of peel. Superficial peels can be repeated every two to four weeks as part of a course. Medium-depth peels require a longer interval — typically six to eight weeks between sessions.

3. Can I have a chemical peel if I have darker skin?

Yes, but careful assessment is essential. Darker skin tones have a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) following peels. We will select the most appropriate peel type and depth, and may recommend a preparatory regimen to reduce this risk. We will always assess carefully and proceed conservatively.

4. Will my skin peel straight away?

Not usually. Peeling or flaking typically begins two to four days after treatment and may continue for several days. It is important not to pick or peel skin manually during this time.

5. Can I combine a chemical peel with other treatments?

Peels often combine well with medical-grade skincare and skin booster treatments as part of a broader skin health programme. Your practitioner will advise on appropriate timing and sequencing.

6. How much does a chemical peel cost?

Costs vary depending on the type and depth of peel and the number of sessions recommended. A full written cost plan will be provided before any treatment begins.
